Longview is the largest city in the Longview-Tyler region and the seat of Gregg County (with parts extending into Harrison County).

Quick facts:

• Population: around 82,000–84,000, making it noticeably larger than Tyler's other neighbors and the second major hub of East Texas
• Location: about 30–35 miles east of Tyler, at the crossroads of Interstate 20 and US Highway 259
• History: grew rapidly with the railroad in the 1870s and then boomed further after the discovery of the East Texas Oil Field in the 1930s
• Economy: more industrially diverse than Tyler — oil and gas, manufacturing (including steel and eastman chemical operations), healthcare, and logistics thanks to its highway/rail position
• Education: home to LeTourneau University (known for engineering) and Texas State Technical College

Longview and Tyler are often talked about together as "twin cities" of East Texas, even though they function fairly independently.
